New York City high-rise building evacuated over safety, stability concerns
The fire department said the building was sagging between the 21st and 26th floors and two columns have buckled between the 21st and 22nd floors. No injuries have been reported and all construction workers at the building got out safely.
The flames lit up the night sky. Thick, dark smoke poured out of windows and in the end, a charred and brittle structure remained, almost unrecognizable. The burning of a West London high-rise apartment building left at least 17 people dead earlier this week.
Officials have observed additional movement at the Midtown Manhattan building, the former headquarters for Pfizer, which is being converted into apartments.
